The Dropdown macro
Inserting a dropdown
Edit a page, type /dropdown (or open the macro browser) and choose Dropdown. The macro editor opens. To change an existing dropdown later, select it in the editor and select the pencil icon.
The dropdown is an inline macro: it's only as wide as its content, so it fits into running text and table cells.
The macro editor
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Multi-select | Lets people pick several options. Only sets that allow multi-select are listed. |
| Dropdown set | The global set or set of this space that provides the options. |
| Define own options | Options just for this dropdown, instead of a set (see below). |
| Selected option(s) | The value(s) selected when the page is published. Optional: without a selection, the dropdown shows the set's default. |
Own options
For a one-off dropdown, select Define own options and enter the options right in the macro editor, with the same fields as a dropdown set. Own options are stored with the dropdown itself, so copying the page or restoring an older version keeps them. To go back to a shared set, select Use a dropdown set instead.
On the published page
People who can edit the page can change the selection right on the published page. Each change is saved into the page, so it's still there after a reload and shows in the page history.
- Single-select dropdowns save each choice immediately.
- Multi-select dropdowns save once you close the menu, so picking several options creates only one new page version.
- Clearing a multi-select dropdown brings back the set's default.
People who can only view the page see the current value but can't change it. Hovering over the dropdown explains why:
In the page editor
While the page is open in the editor, the dropdown is a read-only preview. Change its selection in the macro editor (pencil icon); it's published with the page.
