Dropdown sets
A dropdown set is a named list of options that dropdowns use. Changes to a set apply to every dropdown that uses it, so a typo is fixed in one place.
Global sets and space sets
| Global sets | Space sets | |
|---|---|---|
| Available in | Every space | One space |
| Managed in | Confluence settings → Dropdown sets | Space settings → Dropdown sets |
| Managed by | Confluence admins | Admins of that space |
In the macro editor, authors see both: the global sets and the sets of the page's space.
Managing sets
Both settings pages list the sets with their options and defaults. Admins create, edit and delete sets there. Try it: create a set, edit one of the sample sets or delete one.

Set fields
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | Shown to authors when they choose a set, and in a dropdown while nothing is selected. Names are unique within global sets and within each space (ignoring case). |
| Options | One option per line, in the order the dropdown shows them. Each option must be unique; blank lines are ignored. |
| Colored options | Shows the options as coloured labels. Choose a colour per option from the picker or type a hex value; the text colour adjusts for readability. |
| Allow multi-select | Lets dropdowns with Multi-select turned on use this set. |
| Default option(s) | Shown by dropdowns using this set while nothing is selected. Optional: without a default, the dropdown shows the set's name. With multi-select allowed, a set can have several defaults. |
What happens to existing dropdowns
- Editing options updates every dropdown that uses the set. A dropdown whose selected option was removed shows the set's default instead.
- Turning off Allow multi-select switches multi-select dropdowns using the set to single-select; they show only their first selected option.
- Deleting a set leaves the dropdowns that used it without options. They show a message asking to choose another set in the macro editor.
